The Gemstone Database contains over 500 gems. Many have photos in the Photo Gallery. When you open the Gemstone Database you will see a button at the bottom of the screen that says Photos. If your current gem (the gem that is highlighted) has a photo, or a group of photos, the Photos button will be active. If there isn't a photo available for the highlighted gem the photo button will be inactive (grayed out). Another way to access the Photo Gallery is from the datapage. When you are viewing the details of a gem on the datapage you will see a Photo button on the lower right of the screen.
Multiple Photos: Open the Photo viewer. If a variety has multiple photos there will be a list of available pictures on the top left side of the Photo viewer. Click on any of the descriptions in the list and the associated picture will come up. In the example below the gem Liddicoatite Tourmaline has been selected.
Adding Your Own Photos: Ideally your photo should not be larger than 640x480. Larger may work but we can't say for sure since it was designed for 640x480. Smaller is OK.
Take a test photo. Check the program to see if a photo of that variety exists. If it doesn't, follow these instructions: Name the file to exactly match the stone in the Gemstone Database and add the extension jpeg. We'll use Algodonite as an example because we don't have one in the program. So, the name of the file is now Algodonite.jpeg. Most jpg files don't have the e but these must, so it reads .jpeg and not .jpg. Copy it to C:\Program Files\Wise Jewelry Applications\Images (providing you followed the default installation). Now make a simple text file (you can use Notepad) for the info you want to add. Name this file Algodonite.txt. Copy it to the same Images folder.
Now, when you run the program, the photo button will become active when you highlight Algodonite. Of course, Algodonite is just an example.
When GT Pro already has more than one photo of the variety you want to add you will have to do these additional steps. First, make sure you don't name the file the same as one that already exists or the original file will be lost. Let's say you want to add an oval Blue Sapphire. You could call it "Blue Sapphire - Oval." So you would name the file Blue Sapphire - Oval.jpeg. Next, open Notepad, click on File/Open. At the top you will see a drop down box called Look In. Under Look In you will want to change the folder to C:\Program Files\Wise Jewelry Applications\Images. Then change the Files of Type (at the bottom) to All Files (the default is txt files). Find the file in the Images folder named Blue Sapphire.lst. This is a text file that contains the name of all the photos that will show up when Blue Sapphire is highlighted in the Gemstone Database. Add Blue Sapphire - Oval to the list. Don't add the jpeg part. That's it. Now start GT Pro and check to see that it worked.
When GT Pro only has one photo of the variety: You will have to create the LST file yourself. Just open Notepad, go to the proper Images folder as discussed above and create a simple text file with the name of the original photo file first and the one (or more) files you are adding, one to each line. Don't add any extra carriage returns after the last stone. Save the file with Save As. Assuming you had 2 or 3 Algodonite photos, you would save the file as Algodonite.lst. (That is LST). Open any other LST file to get the idea.
